Queen Isolation Cage
This isolation cage is a great instrument to add to your Integrated Pest Management practices.
**Important note: Always be careful moving frames within the cage as the queen is at risk of damage or death if squashed between a frame and the cage.
**This cage requires the space of 2 frames inside a hive body
There are various purposes it can be used for:
- Allows separation of the queen with a frame (worker or drone brood frame) to create a broodless hive or hive of one type of brood
- separation of the queen to create specific aged eggs or brood
- short term use of the queen with one frame for finding her quickly
- imposing a limitation on egg laying prior to a dearth
- confine the queen from a swarm or new colony to reduce risk of absconding
Instructions:
- Place a single frame into the cage with the solid cover on top.
- The cover sits on top of the frames top bar so it can be removed to give access to the frame without need to remove the entire cage.
- The edges sit flush with the sides of a standard sized wooden hive body (FULL DEPTH/DEEP) to keep the queen contained. Equipment made outside standard specifications may require spare wax to be pressed into the ends with the top bar to block entry/exit
