Aluen CAP Slow-Release Oxalic Acid Strips give beekeepers a practical, organic oxalic acid option for managing varroa mite (Varroa destructor) in managed honey bee colonies. Designed specifically for in-hive use, they can be used when brood is present and have a zero-day honey withholding period after strip removal.
Simple in-hive application
Application is straightforward: for 8–10 frame hives, four strips are placed across the top bars of frames 2, 4, 6 and 8; for 5–6 frame nucleus hives, two strips are placed over frames 2 and 4. Strips remain in the hive for 42 days and are then removed and discarded; they are single‑use and must not be reused. The product is limited to one treatment per year and must not be used over two consecutive treatment periods, giving beekeepers clear boundaries for responsible use.
Safety and stewardship
Aluen CAP is for animal treatment only and is classified as a poison, so it must be kept out of reach of children and handled with appropriate care. When applying or handling strips, users must wear buttoned cotton overalls (or equivalent clothing), gauntlet‑length chemical‑resistant gloves and goggles, and work in a well‑ventilated area. Storage and disposal are straightforward: keep the original closed container below 30 °C, protect it from light, discard unused strips 24 hours after opening, and dispose of packaging and any unused product in line with local regulations without burning.
